Eight years ago, Ms. Blair used her hard work and self-motivation to fulfill a lifelong dream, establishing Ellie Pots, Inc., where she sells one-of-a-kind, wheel-thrown porcelain pieces glazed with handmade crystalline glaze. She combines a zinc-silica glaze with other elements to give each product a glass finish, which lends itself to exceptional one-of-a-kind pieces, in a variety of colors. As the business owner, Ms. Blair oversees operations, conducts workshops on crystalline glazes, and personally makes all of the pottery available for sale. She also displays her pieces at The Phoenix Gallery in Lawrence, Kan. Prior to obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The University of Kansas in 2002 and opening her studio, Ms. Blair worked in nurseries for more than three decades; she still enjoys gardening in her spare time.
Ms. Blair is a member of The American Ceramic Society, The Potters Guild, Strathmore Who's Who, Cambridge Who's Who, and the local artists and potters guild. Additionally, she was named an upcoming new artist by the Lattice Structures Symposium in Kansas City, Mo. in 2005. Looking forward, Ms. Blair hopes to gain increased recognition for her work.
